- A shopping centre in Britain installs two squat toilets in response to evidence that its customers are using throne toilets as squat toilets.
- Tabloid newspaper Daily Star runs a fair and balanced front page story headlined:
MUSLIM-ONLY PUBLIC LOOS
- Complaints to the Press Complaints Commission are upheld.
- The paper is ordered to run the adjudication and a correction.
- Daily Star executives, fed up with being complained about, consider withdrawing their membership of the Press Complaints Commission.

By the way, how good is this line from the BBC article:
Squat toilets are used in many parts of Asia and parts of Europe.
They are not often seen in the UK – which has a strong heritage of pioneering lavatorial invention.

I haven’t spent any time in France since 1993 but for the years prior to then (and no doubt since) public squat toilets were reasonably common there; and France is hardly Asia. otoh I have never seen a squat toilet in the UK. I cannot remember ever seeing a public toilet in the Middle East! And I certainly would not have used it had I happened upon one :) Keep in mind the Daily Star and The Sun make the Melbourne Herald Sun look like an elitist journal only to be gazed upon by those with (at least!) a PhD.
It does, though, raise the interesting question of how much any given society should change its ways to accommodate immigrants?

Yep, the ol’ starting-block toilets are also found all over Europe including France and are not just a Muslim thing. Saw them in Vietnam too.
I hate using the bloody things, but I have seen the results of people using sit down loos as squats and missing the hole – not nice.
BTW The Irish Daily Star, which I assume is related had this headline when the Irish government fessed up to the country’s dire economic position – “Bunch of Useless Gobshites”

Squat toliets are found throughout Asia.
However in the last ten years or so, most shopping malls, hotels etc now have a choice of either the squat style or the European style that we are accustomed to.
Even in Malaysia – a Muslim country – they have been kind enough to not only accommodate our preferred Western style, but often provide toilet paper now too!
