Trollumnist Andrew Bolt is not one given to modesty. Here he is today reviewing his own blog:
… more essential reading than ever.
His years-old “book” (can a collection of newspaper columns really be called a book?), on the other hand, was apparently not essential reading for one previous owner who gave or sold it to a second-hand book shop in Richmond where Ant Rogenous and I, along with a fellow Groupthinker, found it one day. Torn as to where the book should actually be displayed, we took some photos of said book in various sections of the store to see how it looked.

I’m gutted. Andrew gets $12.50, but my copy of Malcy’s The Reluctant Republic only went out for $2.

I like how he still has the link on his blog spruiking the book even though it is long out of print and by the looks of it not gettting a second printing.

Laugh all you want, but when the second edition is published – complete with graphs – it’ll be rolling off the shelves.

You mean complete with graphs cherry picked so they can be used completely out of context so as to be meaningless?
Bolt’s at past master at those graphs…

ABC’s PM last night was quite funny. Mark Colvin was interviewing Bolt over the phone. He got the shits up at Bolt quite quickly and abruptly ended the interview half way through.
Not related to the post, but I had to say it somewhere.

I voted for Mythology, but I’m a bit torn. Myths aren’t necessarily based completely on fiction, Bolta’s book however….

Will the new edition include statistical graphics as accurate as these…

Don’t forget that Bolt’s book was commisoned by News Ltd. Custom Publishers. It’s printed cheaply and isn’t really a proper book.

Bolt’s book should be banned from the kids section. Just saying.

It’s interesting that it has the Herald Sun as publisher. Even though News Corp. owns Harper Collins and all of its imprints. There’s a message to take from that, Andrew.

I enjoyed the humouros comments above.
Just wondering how many of you have actually managed to write a book let alone publish?
Whether you like his politics or not, be fair and give the man credit for doing what he does the best way he does.
If we all did/could do that, the world would be a better place.
Just saying lol

Is it up to you to move a book around various shelves, irrespective of where the shop owner may have placed it? See how you go with that with a copy of the Koran!

Baa Humbug, ever heard of “ghostwriter”?

I would have thought “New Age and Spiritual” would have been the most appropriate place for it, but I suppose “Mythology” is close enough.

I’m curious. What would the Koran do if you tried to move it around various shelves? Does it give you an electric shock?
And is its ability to stop you from moving it around a sign that Allah is the One True God?

I’d go for “New Age/Spiritual”. Bolta certainly writes about “Green religion”, “heretics” and “cults” a lot.

Did the shop not have a proctology section?

No proctology section? What kind of bookshop is this? Next you’ll be saying they don’t have a reactionary right-wing ideologue section! Do they have a section on dealing with toxic waste?
