Work to rule is always an incredibly useful way to make a point, but unfortunately for many people their employment agreements are so vague that they are at the mercy of over-broad clauses that they'll do anything they're told.

If anybody has any ideas for handling rogue employers, this thread might be a good place to put them.

"Something is wrong there."

No sh!t, Andy.

My partner manages a large farm, and works probably 30+ hpw of unpaid overtime.

Also, the owner and his son recently tried to make her and the other manager pay for all damage to farm equipment, fences, motorcycles etc, that had been broken by their farmhands (or through natural wear and tear) during the course of the month.

As you can imagine, they got told to f*ck off.

I found out the other day that my employer is instigating a new electronic system whereby employees will sign on with a touchcard. Late sign on, even if only 1 minute, will result in being docked.

I did query if I claimed 1 minute of overtime if it would be paid. Told no, and that I should stop being pedantic.

I didn't see any free articles on the situation in Australia, but there's this one from Canada:

In the case of manufacturing, 94 percent of all overtime hours worked by unionized employees were paid overtime. Conversely, for non-union workers in manufacturing, only 57 percent of all overtime hours worked were paid.

I'd love to see a comparison of the unpaid overtime figures between union members and non-members.
